If you’ve just invested in a hot tub for your friends, family, and guests (or maybe just for yourself!) then you’re likely elated at the prospect of taking your first dip. But as a new spa owner, you may not know what the best temperature will be for your spa. You may be thinking: What temperature will be most enjoyable? Well, we’re here to tell you that there’s no black-and-white answer to that question. After all, everybody has their own preferences, and your preferences may even change throughout the year. So, how do you decide? Well, as Fort Collins’ premier spa provider, we have a few tips that you can employ to try to please everybody that is taking a dip. Here’s our advice:

Safety First

Before we get started, we have a few words of caution. If you have kiddoes around that will be enjoying the tub, or if you have any folks who may have health issues if they take a dip, then you may need to lower the temperature of your spa. Be mindful that some people shouldn’t use hot tubs if they have certain health conditions, and they should consult a physician if they’re considering using a spa. In addition, pregnant women should also consult a physician before using a hot tub. Younger children (those under the age of 5) should only take a dip if the temperature is below 95°F, and they should only sit in the tub for 5 to 10 minute intervals. Always supervise children that are enjoying your hot tub.

For Those Who Like It Hot

Now, if you’re one of the many hot tub enthusiasts who prefer their spa as hot as it gets, you’ll likely be setting the temperature to 104°F. This is the highest UL-standardardized temperature allowed for hot tub manufacturers, since higher temperatures can be dangerous or hazardous to your health. If you max out the hot tub temperature at 104°F, you’ll find your spa quite hot, yet still safe for a soak.

Seasonal Adjustments

Some folks prefer to adjust their spa temperature throughout the year to reflect the weather outside. For instance, you may want to have your spa fairly hot in spring and fall, piping hot in winter, and lukewarm in the summer. You’re always welcome to adjust the temperature of your hot tub as outdoor temperatures rise and fall. Minimizing the temperature of your spa in summer is fairly common, actually, since it can serve as a “small pool” to actually cool off throughout those hot, sunny days. Simply set your spa to the lowest temperature setting, ensuring that it continues to filter the water in the tub.

Be mindful that if you are adjusting the temperature in your spa, you shouldn’t do it too often or too quickly. Adjusting the temperature often can strain the components of your spa, and that wear and tear can decrease the longevity of your hot tub. Instead of constant adjustments, you can slowly adjust the heat range of your spa as the seasons change.

When You’re Away

If you’re going to be away from your hot tub for a while, you may be wondering if you should lower the temperature to save a bit on energy costs. That’s a good idea. If you’re heading out of town for a few days, you can lower your spa by 5 degrees lower than your usual setting to save a bit of energy. Then, when you return you can raise that temperature up without straining the tub much — the temperature should be back to normal in a matter of hours.

If you’re going to be gone for more than a week, you can lower the temperature of your tub even further. You can turn your spa to energy-saving mode if it has that feature, or lower your spa to the lowest allowable temperature. You’ll want to keep the spa on to keep the water fresh and filtered.

If you ever need more advice about your hot tub, its temperatures, and how to make the most of your spa time, we’re always here. Give us a call with any questions that you may have, and feel free to stop by our spa showroom in Fort Collins at any time!

If you’re looking for the ultimate gift to give the whole family — and a gift that truly continues to give and give — then it’s time to invest in a spa. And what better time is there than during the winter holidays. You’ll love the new addition for your home, and you’re family will love their first dip in their spa as the snow starts to fall this cold season. So what are you waiting for?

If you’re considering a new spa for your home this season, we’re here to convince you that you’ll love our hot tubs; and we’ve lined up a number of activities that you’ll enjoy for your first hot tub experience during the holidays! Here are a few favorite activities that you and your family are sure to enjoy:

Champagne to Ring in the New Year

A new year is always reason to celebrate. And with a spa and a bottle of bubbly, you’ll ring in the New Year in style. Whether you’re soaking in the spa with the love of your life, or you’re enjoying a cheerful celebration with friends, there’s no better way to kick off the turning of the calendar. So, pop the cover of your tub off, pop the cork of your favorite champagne, and take a soak under the stars (or fireworks!).

Just remember to enjoy your bubbly responsibly — do not consume too much alcohol while enjoying your spa, and be sure to hydrate! Oh, and it’s best to use plastic champagne flutes if you’re drinking in or around your tub, since glass can prove dangerous!

Spa & Snow Angels

If you live here on the Front Range, then you’re sure to see a few blizzards throughout the winter. When the white stuff falls, you can head out to the hot tub to make the most of that sparkly precipitation. If you’re feeling bold, jump out, take a dive in the snow, and make a snow angel! Children love to prance back and forth between the spa and the snow, and you’ll certainly feel like a kid if you give it a try! Just be sure to keep the kiddos monitored, and don’t let them run around the tub if there is water or ice on the ground!

Soak Up the Sun

When winter rolls around, the sun ends up on the wrong side of the earth for the majority of the time — leaving us in the dark. And with cold temperatures, it can be daunting to get outside to get some sunlight. If you need to counter seasonal affective disorder with some much needed, warming sun rays, you can beat the cold with a daytime soak. Head out to the tub during a sunny spurt throughout the day to get a bit of exposure. Your body will be thankful for the vitamin D it synthesizes in sunlight. You can take a sunny swim for about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the color of your skin, the time of the year (there’s less UVB exposure during the winter), and the time of day (there’s more UVB exposure when skies are clear and the sun is at its highest). Be sure not to spend too much time in full exposure, and use protective lotion if you’ll be out in the sun for an extended time! Also, be wary that some people are more sensitive to sunlight while bathing, so don’t overexpose yourself if you notice your skin is burnt, itchy, or overly dry.

Snow Games

Snowball fights are fun. And they’re twice as fun if you have a spa to warm up in. Your hot tub can serve as the perfect “home base” for all of the snow games that you like to play. If you’re building a snowman, for instance, then you can stay close to the hot tub; just be sure to keep your swimsuit and a few towels handy.

Morning Coffee & Cocoa

Is there any better way to wake up than a morning cup of rich cocoa or hot coffee? If your favorite wake up routine means stirring a cup of hot stuff as soon as you stir from bed, you’ll love adding a hot tub to the mix. Wake up and greet the day with a new hot tub this holiday — you’ll spring out of bed faster, and you’ll feel refreshed and relaxed for the day to come.

Shop for Your Family’s Favorite New Gift

If you’re looking for the ultimate gift that everybody in your family will enjoy, then you’d better stop into the showroom here at Colorado Spas. We have a gallery of hot tubs, ranging from two-seaters to sizeable spas that will fit the whole family. You’ll love the boundless activities that will be enjoyed by all. You’ve recently purchased a hot tub, it is fully set up, and now it is ready to be enjoyed. All that’s left is for you to sink into the warm, soothing waters and enjoy a relaxing evening soak. While there is nothing better than those initial evenings of owning a hot tub, be sure you know exactly how to best take care of your newly acquired hot tub and avoid any activities that could lead to issues. Here at Colorado Spas, we provide an array of choices when it comes to hot tubs in Northern Colorado. We can help you pick the ideal outdoor hot tub for your needs.

Talk to us today about the hot tubs we have for sale and check out these six things you should never do when enjoying your new purchase.

#1: Bring Glass To The Party

While you might be tempted to bring your glass of wine or bottle of beer to the hot tub with you, never bring glass near your hot tub. If you were to drop your glass or knock it over, you could be facing a clean-up nightmare. Glass can easily get caught up in the swirling water and cause a serious safety concern. If glass is broken around your hot tub and there is any possibility that glass entered the hot tub, you need to leave immediately and thoroughly clean the spa.

Not only is it a bad idea to bring glass near your hot tub, most of the time the glass you are bringing is a holder for an alcoholic beverage of some kind. While it sounds ideal to soak and sip your favorite adult beverage, it is actually not recommended to drink while soaking. Save the cocktail hour for after your relaxing soak.

#2: Soak Till Your A Lobster

What can soothe your sore muscles more than a nice, toasty hot tub soak? While you want to enjoy a fair amount of heat when lounging in a hot tub, be careful that you don’t overdo it. Always monitor the heat in your hot tub and make sure it is not exceeding the recommended limits, around 100 degrees to 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

You should also take a break and get out of your hot tub. The hotter the water, the less time you should spend soaking. Ideally, take a break and get out of your hot tub every 15 to 30 minutes. Take some time to cool off before re-entering.

#3: Get In With Wounds

Soaking a sore muscle or a tired back is a great use of your hot tub. However, any open wounds or cuts should not be exposed to the hot tub’s water. Avoid using a hot tub until your wounds are completely healed over. A simple bandage will not be enough to protect your wound while you soak and the hot water can actually remove bandages while you soak.

Soaking with open wounds puts you at risk of developing infections. Use your hot tub for sore muscles, not sore cuts.

#4: Leave The Kids Unattended

Even your children will enjoy a quick soak in the hot tub. However, be sure you are always around to supervise any children who use the hot tub. While a hot tub might seem small enough to safely leave a child alone in, it is just as dangerous as leaving a young child in a pool alone or any other body of water.

Make sure every kid in your home or who visits your home understands that the hot tub can only be used under adult supervision. If you are worried about curious children getting in without your knowledge, keep the hot tub cover on and locked unless you are around.

#5: Rough House In The Spa

It might sound fun to play a game of chicken in your hot tub, but it is never wise to roughhouse in this small space. A hot tub can be very slick and it is easy to slip and fall when playing around. This can lead to cracking your head on the side of the spa or falling out of the tub onto the ground.

Save the roughhousing for a different time and enjoy your hot tub in a leisurely manner. Make sure youngsters also follow this rule of hot tubbing.

#6: Watch A Thunderstorm From The Tub

Here in Northern Colorado, summertime brings some beautiful storms. While you might find it relaxing to watch a thunderstorm while soaking in the warm waters, it is never wise to be in any body of water during a thunderstorm and that includes your hot tub. If you can see or hear lightning, you need to exit the water and save your soak for after the storm.

While thunderstorms might pose a risk to hot tub users, that doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying any storms. Wait for a beautiful winter snow storm and enjoy the warmth of your hot tub’s water as you watch the snow fall. One of the reasons hot tubs are so popular in Northern Colorado is due to our climate. With so many cold days and nights ahead, a hot tub makes the perfect solution to fight the chill.

It goes without saying that hot tubs can provide an added element of relaxation into your life. While most of us recognize the relaxing element of a hot tubbing, you might not have ever thought about how much a hot tub can improve your mental wellness. With the rise of knowledge around the importance of self-care, there is no better time than now to invest in personal calm and relaxation. If you are looking for a hot tub in Northern Colorado, we invite you to visit our showroom and speak with our team about choosing the perfect spa for your needs.

If one of your goals is to improve your mental wellness, check out this information about how a hot tub can help you achieve your mental health goals.

The Importance Of Hydrotherapy

Using water as a means of therapy and restoration has been a practice long in use. From the time of ancient Rome, bathhouses have played an important role in reviving and improving people’s health. In every culture, you can find a form of hydrotherapy including sweat lodges, hot springs, and more. It has long been recognized that water can aid in healing and restoration for both the mind and body.

This form of healing is described as hydrotherapy. Hot water, in particular, is esteemed for its healing qualities. As hot water and the jets found in a hot tub increase circulation, more oxygen reaches every part of your body, leading to improved healing. Not only can you enjoy hydrotherapy for the healing of your body, but you can also enjoy the added benefit of healing for your mind. Read on to learn more about how a hot tub can help you improve your mental wellness.

Integrate Your Hot Tub Into Self-Reflection Rituals

Just as water has been integral throughout the ages in healing, so has self-reflection and meditation. Taking the time to slow down and calm your thoughts can go a long way in improving your mental well being. It is easy for life to become a hectic whirlwind, in which you never have a moment to reflect on your purpose for living.

Take the time to integrate self-reflection and meditation into your weekly routine. Use your hot tub as a relaxing location for this practice. As the water soothes your body, allow your mind to relax and slowly process the days behind and head.

Add Soaking Into Your Normal Workout Routine

Working out is both a physical and mental exercise. Ask anyone who has ever trained for a long race and you will find that most endurance activities involve a large amount of mental discipline. Utilize your hot tub to promote this mental health into your daily routine. Not only will soaking after a long workout ease the pain in your muscles, it can also soothe your mind after an intense battle of the wills. This will help you get the most out of your workout in every way.

Splurge On A Night Just For You

Your hot tub can also be utilized as an important aspect of self-care. If you find that most days you are busy running around, helping others, with little time for yourself, use your hot tub as a personal getaway. Schedule a night that is just for you. Spend time relaxing in the warm waters of your hot tub and letting your stress melt away. Stress is the leading cause of numerous diseases and ailments, which is why taking care of your mental well-being is so vital. A hot tub can be the perfect catalyst for the relaxation your mind needs.

Owning a hot tub allows you to provide a unique entertainment option for family and friends. Your next party can be upgraded when you take the cover off your hot tub and share in the fun of a nice toasty soak. Once you become a hot tub owner, it is very likely that your friends will be dying to come try the new tub out. Here at Colorado Spas, we provide a vast selection of hot tubs in Northern Colorado and we will be happy to help you choose the best hot tub for your needs.

If you are getting ready to entertain guests with your newly purchased hot tub, check out these important tips to ensure everyone has a wonderful time.

#1: Be sure everyone understands important safety rules up front.

The first place to begin is to ensure that all your guests understand important safety tips in regards to enjoying the hot tub. While you don’t want to come across like a strict parent, you do want to keep your guests safe from harm and you want a good time to be had by all.

A few important hot tub safety rules include the following:

  • Don’t bring glass into the hot tub.
  • No roughhousing in the hot tub to ensure no one hits their head.
  • No children or pets unattended in the hot tub.

Your party will become far less enjoyable if someone gets hurt or glass is broken and the spa has to be drained. Make sure everyone is on the same page and provide plastic cups for your guests to use in the hot tub area.

#2: Prepare plenty of towels for the crew.

Before your guests arrive be sure you clean a sufficient number of towels for everyone. Having a stack of fresh, fluffy towels nearby will allow everyone to feel comfortable and will also prevent large amounts of water to drench your home’s floors. While guests might think to bring a towel, it never hurts to prepare by having a stack ready.

Some guests also might want to utilize your shower after soaking to wash off any chemicals from the water. Make sure you have some simple toiletries on hand so you can offer your guests soaps and shampoos. These small gestures will ensure everyone feels at home and enjoys their time.

#3: Keep water nearby to ensure everyone is hydrated.

Soaking in a hot tub is a very warm affair. Make sure that your hot tub is only at the recommended temperatures so you don’t overcook your guests. Keep water nearby as well so everyone can keep hydrated as the heat from the spa can cause your guests to sweat and lose water.

You can place a cooler full of chilled water bottles near the hot tub or you can provide plastic cups and an ice cold pitcher of cucumber water for a super refreshing drink. While sipping on wine or beer might sound like a fun party idea, it is recommended that your guests do not imbibe while soaking.

#4: Don’t forget to mention the hot tub.

It might seem obvious, but make sure you mention the hot tub in your party invites to friends or family. Nothing is worse than arriving at a party only to find out you didn’t bring a swimsuit and the main event is soaking in a hot tub. Ensure everyone gets the memo so a good time can be had by all. It is important to only utilize swimwear in a hot tub rather than street clothes as normal clothing can leach pollutants into the water.

We carry a vast selection of hot tubs that were specifically designed for entertaining. These hot tubs feature extra seating and plenty of room for everyone to kick back and relax.
